Welcome to Charactry
Charactry is a dedicated desktop app for original-character (OC) creators. Instead of scattering your characters across notes apps, documents, and folders, Charactry gives your whole cast a single, beautiful home — profiles, art, universes, relationships, and lore all in one place.
This guide walks you through everything from installing the app to mastering universes, the AI Studio, and the full plugin library. Use the menu on the left to jump to any topic.
Installing Charactry
Charactry is currently available for Windows only. There is no macOS or Linux build yet. Download the installer (a single .exe file) from the official download link, then run it — Windows will set everything up for you.
No account and no internet connection are required to use the app. Charactry is local-first: your characters live on your own machine.
- Download the Charactry .exe installer.
- Run the installer and follow the on-screen prompts.
- Launch Charactry — you'll land on an empty character grid, ready to fill.
Getting Around
Charactry's layout is built around three areas: the sidebar on the left for navigation and plugins, the top bar for switching universes and searching, and the main panel where your characters and tools appear.
- Sidebar — navigate between Characters, Universes, Relationships, Lorebooks, AI Studio, and your installed plugins.
- Top bar — switch the active universe, search your cast, and open Settings.
- Main panel — the character grid, profile sheets, and plugin views all render here.
Creating & Managing Characters
Click + New Character, give them a name, and you're started. Each character gets a full profile with an avatar, banner art, tags, and any fields you choose to fill in. Characters save automatically as you edit.
Back on the character grid, you can filter, sort, and search your entire cast. Cards show the avatar, tags, rarity border, and universe badge at a glance.
Profiles & Custom Fields
A character profile holds core info (name, pronouns, age, height, species, and more), personality notes, backstory, a gallery, and relationship links — all on one scrollable sheet.
Custom fields let you record anything the built-in fields don't cover — powers, affiliations, favourite foods, theme colours, whatever your world needs.
Universes & Alternate AUs
Organize your characters across multiple universes and alternate AUs. Give each universe a name, colour, and description, then assign characters to it. Switch between worlds from the top bar with a single click.
Every character can have universe-specific variants — the same OC, reimagined for a different setting, each with their own separate data and art.
Relationship Mapping
Map out who knows who — rivals, lovers, family, friends, enemies, and your own custom relationship types. View your cast's connections at a glance and understand the web of your story.
The Rarity System
Tag your OCs with a rarity tier, each with its own animated border effect. Because some characters just deserve to glow.

Lorebooks
Lorebooks let you write and store the deeper details of your world — history, magic systems, factions, locations, and events. Entries can be linked to characters and universes so nothing gets lost.
AI Studio
AI Studio is Charactry's built-in space for working with AI alongside your characters. Use it to brainstorm, expand backstories, and bounce ideas off your cast.
With the PLUS AI Memory Expansion, the AI can read your Lorebooks and character assignments, giving it real context about your world.
Activating Charactry PLUS
Charactry PLUS unlocks advanced features and the Pro plugins. It's a one-time purchase — no subscription.
After purchasing, you'll receive a valid_hashes.js file. Open Settings → Charactry PLUS and import it. Verification happens locally, so no internet is needed, and your PLUS features unlock instantly.
Plugins
Plugins are installable extensions that slot directly into Charactry's sidebar. Some come bundled for free, some are exclusive to PLUS, and others are available separately as free or paid add-ons.
Building Your Own Plugins
If you know your way around HTML and JavaScript, you can build plugins that slot right into Charactry's sidebar and share them with the community. Just keep these rules in mind.
